Gorohovaya Street - is one of those streets, which become legend and are full of amazing stories. Called after the name of a German merchant Garrah, who once settled down in Russia and became Gorohov, this street at all times has been one of the most «elite» streets: here many rich tradesmen and later many aristocrats used to build their houses. Here N.V.Gogol used to rent a flat, here lived Grigoriy Rasputin. Dostoevsky and Goncharov used to make the characters of their novels live on this street. At the corner of Malaya Morskaya and Gorohovaya, near the house, where one of the «Residence» hotels is located, once lived the duchess Natalia Petrovna Golitsyna, the prototype of the old countess in the Pushkin's «The queen of spades».
